Are You the Next Restorer?

Four and a half years ago, I envisioned a middle-American mom (much like myself) plunged into the classic fish-out-of-water fantasy epic. This story premise has been done a million ways--but usually with a young male hero.

Could a female character take this "hero's journey?" I know the lives of my women friends - and they are the stuff of epic heroism. I was also inspired by the Biblical example of Deborah in the book of Judges. I believed that there was room for a different take on the genre.

What if Susan, a modern wife and mom of four, (whose biggest battle was arbitrating which of her kids got the biggest French fry) was pulled into a world waiting for a promised Restorer to save their people? And what if she had the signs they watched for? Her relationship skills, her experiences as a wife and mother, and most of all her deep and persistent faith - all brought a new color to the adventure palette.

This story grabbed me and wouldn't let go, and in fact, I wrote two more novels in the series - because I loved the characters so much.

The journey of this book coming to publication is its own adventure story of obstacles, battles, and allies...and most of all of the unfailing faithfulness of God.

At last, I'm delighted to announce that The Restorer is available to pre-order.

Love the cover, Sharon. And now that I know you, I will pick it up even though it's outside my usual genre choice. I couldnt' read the Lord of the rings trilogy until after seeing the movies and having the context of a world to place the books in! But if this is anything like the Becky Miller books, I know I will LOVE IT. Your sense of humor and characterization just makes the books shine and so enjoyable.

Sharon, I echo Cara. This cover is awesome. I'm not a Mom, but I already know I must read Susan's story for the adventure aspects. Looking forward to it.

Sharon, let's share a cup of tea someday and talk about our publishing journeys!

Hi, Cara!
I think God's timing has been wonderful. I've had a chance to build some readership, so people might trust me enough to try a little "off-center" sort of genre. By the way, I adored LOTR in college, but these days don't have the mental focus to commit to reading high-fantasy style. So I wanted to bring a contemporary voice to that kind of story telling.

C.J. - although Susan is a mom, and that flavors how she views her adventures, her struggles in this story draw on some universal themes. I've had test readers from MANY walks of life who've identified with Susan and her story. :-)

I'm so excited for people to get copies in hand and get to read it - but part of me is afraid because then folks will realize what a truly strange place my brain is. :-)

We must must have that cup of tea.
Your books (and your APPROACH to being a Christ-follower and writer) are such an inspiration to me.

Rock on, Sharon! The book sounds awesome. May your new tales bring millions closer to the One True King, and, while you're at it, recruit a whole new demographic into the fantasy genre!

Vive le Christian Revolution fantastique!
