Christian Fandom Site

The photo is of my two teens climbing on the rocks outside a small town in Wyoming. The picture evokes high adventure for me--stories about struggles and overcoming and facing the unexpected. Stories about God's beauty reaching down to touch us.

For the next few days, (July 24-26, 2006) several bloggers (including me!) who love Christian Fantasy and Science Fiction (and every variation and combination of speculative fiction) will be featuring a terrific website that showcases and reviews works by some of my favorite authors.

You can visit all the bloggers involved to read their take, but most of all, be sure to visit Christian Fandom

It's an amazing and comprehensive site!

After you visit, let me know your favorite "speculative fiction" books.

Blessings!
Sharon Hinck

Thanks ever for joining our blog tour, Sharon.

I've added a link to this blog to my Mirathon blogroll. :D

My favorite speculative fiction books??

Oh man... Um... There's too many to list.

I guess The Book of the New Sun is near the top, along with The Lord of the Rings.

Check my profile. I'm sure I put some in there.

These are the dreaded questions: "What's your favorite book? What have you read recently? What's your favorite movie?" Am I the only one who goes brain dead when asked those questions?

Egad ... like Elliot, I have too many to list.

Till We Have Faces (anything by C.S. Lewis!)

Karen's Guardian King series

The Firebird Trilogy

The Blue Sword (Robin McKinley)

... to name just a few ...

Well, I'll play, too.
Perelandra (by C.S. Lewis) is one of my favorites.
LOTR (of course). I first read it right before an aggressive back-packing trip through the Tetons for ten days. Wow, could I ever relate to all the trudging that the fellowship had to endure. :-)
Stephen Donaldson's books spoke deeply to me - not just the Thomas Covenant books, but also The Mirror of her Dreams.
Anne McCaffrey - spent a whole summer reading Pern books.
Stephen Lawhead, Karen Hancock, Kathy Tyer, Randy Ingermanson (all wonderful CBA authors).
And assorted Star Trek novels I've gathered at second-hand stores over the years (original, next-gen, and a few DS9)
That's just a sampling, but some good ones. :-)
I've been delighted to see how many of these are reviewed or mentioned on Christian Fandom!

A couple of my favorite fantasy authors that never seemed to hit the big time are Ann Marston (with a double trilogy in a great fantasy world) and Laura Resnick (an ongoing series with second-to-none worldbuilding.) Holly Lisle's Talyn is also superb as are many of her other titles.

In CBA, I'll go with Karen Hancock, Kathy Tyers, Randy Ingermanson. Just recently discovered Donita Paul. Can't wait to read a new series I hear is coming out by Sharon Hinck...

LOL!
Thanks, Valerie.

Yes, Restorer is great! I'm looking forward to seeing it in print and then reading the next two.

I'm not going to name favorites because there are too many, but how about the book I just finished? Ship of Destiny by Robin Hobb, third in the Liveship Traders, which is the middle trilogy of her trilogy of trilogies... I'd like to read the next one RIGHT NOW! Unfortunately I do not have time to squeeze in umm... 900,000 words or so in the next few days before I start the final draft of Return of the Guardian King... So The Tawny Man will have to wait until October.

Ah, another Robin McKinley fan (Shanon). Somehow, I'm not surprised. ;-)

I really enjoyed The Blue Sword, too!

I keep trying to read Till We Have Faces. I took it out from the university library, but my wife stole it and read it. Then it was due back. Then I went down to the Christian bookstore to buy a copy. THEY DIDN'T HAVE IT! Bah.

One day I'll get my hands on it...

Oooh! You all have given me some great leads on reads.
If only I wasn't up to my earlobes in revisions right now. Oh, well. As soon as my first lull arrives, I'll be tracking down some of these!
