Christmas Letters - Redux

Last week I blogged about how much I enjoy reading Christmas letters, because of what they express about the universal human condition, and God's gentle hand at work in our lives.

Our family does something else with Christmas letters and cards.

We keep them in a basket by our dining room table all year.

Each night after supper (at least the nights that everyone is home at the same time and we actually eat together) we pull a letter or card from the basket. We read it, pass around the photo if there is one, and then spend time praying for that person or family.

We get to enjoy the letters and cards and friendships throughout the year, and support our friends and family members through prayer in some semi-organized kind of way.

Anyone else do interesting things with Christmas cards and letters? Let me know!

BLESSINGS!

Just wanted to let you know that I finished reading "Secret Life of Becky Miller" this weekend...and I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!! It only took me 3 sittings to finish in 2 days! It was uncanny how many details of her life paralleled mine...I actually thought that maybe you were writing my bio without consulting me (hehe). I guess it's just good to know that the things we deal with are not uncommon to other moms like us. It's good to know we're not alone.
Thanks for writing such a wonderful novel. I am looking forward to your next one...and I'm telling all of my mom friends about your books.
You've made a fiction reader out of me...thanks!

Sharon. You inspired me to write a piece on my "Writing Remnants" blog about a Christmas letter recieved from friends from grad school. It's amazing how we are all connected in the body of Christ.

Thanks, Tonja!
Your comment made my day, and I shared it with my editor.

Cheryl, your blog was beautiful and poignant.

Camy - it's so weird that instead of two grown-ups surrounded by kids, our family photo is now teens and adults. But I DO think they are all lovely.

Tonja - thanks for the link to your blog, so I could pop by! :-)
